The UltraStor™ RS8-IP is the first, affordable, iSCSI target solution that enables the simple creation of a Storage Area Network (IP-SAN) for effective storage deployment & management across standard Ethernet infrastructures. By combining IP connectivity, volume management and RAID functionality, UltraStor™ RS8-IP represents the core component required to integrate a powerful, consolidated, video workgroup storage network.

In its simplest form, the UltraStor™ RS8-IP allows for the consolidation of the storage requirements for multiple users onto a single, centrally managed, storage appliance. Integrated tools facilitate the creation of virtual “drives” (volumes); the capacity of which can be dynamically re-allocated as required. These volumes can be “mounted” to any station in the workgroup and accessed as local storage by that station. Volumes can also be “released” (un-mounted) and mounted for access by a different user. Since these “drives” are accessed via IP addressing, volumes can be mounted by any workstation on the LAN; or even through the Internet.

Adding off-the-shelf SAN Management software to this “mix” would allow this configuration to “grow” into a full IP-SAN; permitting simultaneous access to the entire storage array from any and all users of the video workgroup. Instead of mounting/de-mounting specific volumes between users, all users would have access to all volumes all of the time.

All ProAVIO UltraStor™ RAID systems have been specifically designed to operate in “mission-critical” (24/7) environments. The fully programmable RAID controller can be configured for virtually any RAID level (0,1,0+1,3,5,10,50 and 6) so as to balance data performance versus protection requirements.Background data rebuild capability, coupled with support for “hot spare” data drives, allows the UltraStor™ systems to automatically recover from a drive failure even while the system remains online

Hot-swappable, redundant components (drive trays, power supplies and cooling modules) enable system maintenance without interruption of service. UltraStor™ HDS8 can even automatically notify system operation/maintenance personnel in the advent of a component failure.


RS16 IP utilizes standard Gigabit Ethernet hardware, eliminating the need to re-invest in additional technololgy or expensive hardware.
